Rika takes after her father with a laid-back sort of personality. She's a 'go with the flow' kind of person and isn't usually bothered when things take a turn for the worst. She boasts of an extremely warm and motherly personality, often prone to being a mother hen to the family. Granted, she is also like her father in the sense that she isn't overly protective of her kid's' and generally lets them do what they want under the idea that she'll kill them if they die. She's perfectly okay with them doing reckless things or anything of the nature because that's what she's done her entire life and nobody needs her telling them what to do, it makes them want to rebel even more. Granted, she did wish her father would have told her 'no' more often instead of spoiling his little princess, but that point isn't relevant. Much to the chagrin of her son and probably her late husband, Rika somehow manages to have this seductive sort of look and attitude about her. She's turned many heads in her lifetime and she still continues to do so. In fact, her son moans of the fact that his friends in high school and people around his own age continue to hit on her. It's a problem that she makes no attempts at rectifying is often flirting with people to annoy her son. Her personality can be capricious at best and she can be often hard to handle with her loud, boisterous and candid nature. She often has no filter in what she says when it comes to anything sexual, often openly make really sexual jokes. She does know how to control herself...unless it's attempting to make love matches with people...then she turns into complete and utter fangirl. It's at the point where she gives her 'ships' names and has her OTP. '
Rika is a fickle and flamboyant sort of woman and is often compared to an absolute ditz. She often comes off that way to certain people to hide a calculating and manipulative nature. She knows that coming off as such a ditz is advantageous to her in the long run because nobody really suspects her of any wrong-doing when people think she's an idiot. It's always fun to see their face when they realize that she's probably playing with them. She shares a dense nature with both her father and her son and often blames it on the fact that she was dropped on her head, twice, as a young child. One was by Yamamoto himself and the other by Tsunayoshi. It's unsure of if that left any lasting damage to her, but judging by the fact she's completely capable and not a drooling idiot it's safe to say that she's okay. You know besides the fact that she's completely oblivious, forgetfully and generally ADHD. Rika often drifts off into her own little world if she hasn't occupied her mind enough and is often noted to have left her son when he was a young child in many places because she wandered off and left him. On more than one occasion this has lead other families to attack her and her son specifically and he has been kidnapped on more than one occasion. She has gotten better over the years, however because of her son's dutiful nature when it comes to babysitting his mother. She has an extremely reckless nature when her family has been hurt or put in danger and becomes a rabid wildcat to avenge her family and friends if they've been wronged. After the death of the Vongola's previous leader and in one of the resulting battles in which her husband had perished, Rika had picked up her broken katana and hurled herself into combat with reckless abandon, becoming a wrathful, avenging angel. It gave her the name of Vongola's Wildcat along with a myriad of other titles. The family who had been attacking had eventually turned to retreat from the daughter of Takeshi Yamamoto because she had taken down enough of them in her rage and the rest were afraid of her.

Rika is the only child of Yamamoto Takeshi and was also among the youngest of the Tenth Generation's children, if not the youngest. It was due to this fact that Rika was rather doted upon by the Vongola and by her father. Granted, Yamamoto was a rather laid-back individual and that tendency to be relaxed and a bit oblivious passed onto his parenting skills. She was raised as his little princess and was a little bit spoiled by her father and the other guardians. Of course, the spoiling could have also been the guilt of accidentally dropping her on her head as a baby...who knows.
Yamamoto had not really wanted to train Rika in the way of the sword until she was older, but the state of the Vongola as well as pressure from Squalo, he began teaching her when she was eight years old. She took the sword completely naturally, much to both Squalo and Yamamoto's pleasure and almost immediately, Squalo also pressured Yamamoto into allowing him to teach her how to be an assassin. Rika started her assassin training with Squalo a year later and took to it fairly quickly, also discovering her innate ability to bat her eyelashes and get what she wanted from her father and sometimes, even grumpy Squalo. Squalo saw this as beneficial to her and after teaching her the basics of assassination, forked her off onto female members of the Varia, and Lussuria to some extent, to teach her the rest. After five years of training to be an assassin and a seductress, Rika officially became the guardian of Rain for Ryouichi Sawada, the leader of the Vongola after Tsunayoshi. He was several years older than she was, but she was still able to relate to him despite their age gap. It was during her time as Ryouichi's guardian that gave her the name of "Queen of Ghosts" among the mafia. Due to her younger age as well as her status of being the guardian who infiltrated enemy families using her skills as a seductress and the "Heartbreaker of the Vongola," Ryouichi kept her name and her face mostly under wraps besides people the guardians were close to. This has remained the same through out her time as the rain guardian. People have heard stories about the Vongola of the Rain, and know her by name and by who her father is, but they don't know what she is like or what she looks like.
After joining the ranks of Guardian at 14, several months after that, she found herself working in the ranks of the joint task-force between the Cavallone family and the Vongola run by one Akira Akiyami, who at the time, was 17 and several years her senior who had just taken over for his mother and father, members of the Cavallone and the Vongola respectively. After working together for several months, they started dating when Rika turned fifteen and a year later, a few months after her sixteenth birthday, Rika found out she was pregnant with her only son. It had been a terrifying thing to realize that she was sixteen and pregnant, but Akira made it all better by asking her to marry him because of it, although he had jokingly added that he had to push up his plans for that and she ruined a future marriage proposal. It was after both her best friend, Gokudera's daughter, and Akira knew that she told her father. Honestly, she's convinced that it was the angriest she'd ever see her father and that if Akira hadn't asked her marry him...she would have been a young, single mother with her son having a dead father.
Ryuu was born about nine months after that and with the knowledge that her best friend had a daughter four years prior to Ryuu's birth...the fact that they could ship their children together was a fabulous thing. They'd done it with a lot of people over the years, after all. After Ryuu's birth, she took some time off from the Vongola to raise her young son, but there was conflict from the Vongola's enemies...and the death of her best friend had hit her hard. The Vongola needed their rain around to pick up the pieces that the death of Silvia's parents had brought and so, after bringing Silvia home and offering to help Gokudera look after her when she could, she returned to the Vongola.
Another heavy hit to the Vongola came with the death of Ryouichi's brother and the disowning of his eldest child. Rika was shaken by the fact that his eldest son had caused the death of his uncle and worried more about Ryuu being in the mafia each day. The worse was yet to come. In the wake of the death of CEDEF's leaders, the banishment of Ryouichi's eldest child...another mafia family decided to kick the Vongola while it was down. Rika and Akira had been taking Ryuu to play with some of the other kids in the Vongola and their families. The area was supposed to be safe...it was an area dedicated to the Vongola's families in Namimori, set up by Tsunayoshi and his own mother, Nana Sawada for families to be able to spend time with each other with no worries. That changed when an enemy family attacked the area, taking out any guards that watched over the area.
Akira and Rika were the only two trained fighters there that day, any other Vongola members were non-combatants and their skills were subpar. So, ordering the non-combatants away and pushing a seven-year old Ryuu into the arms of an elderly member of the Vongola, Akira and Rika faced the attackers on their own. They would have to hold them off until somebody could get word that they needed help. They were woefully outnumbered, but still managed to hold them off somehow. Akira was guarding a group of children who hadn't quite managed to get away in the panic and was fighting the storm guardian of the enemy family, when one of the children he was protection rose and while Akira was distracted, stabbed him in the back. Akira at least managed to take down the storm guardian of the other family before the knife had hit him.
Rika, fending off the lightning guardian, witnessed this as well as Akira's storm flames slam into the child in retaliation, causing the mist flame illusion to fall to reveal the mist guardian of the enemy family. During her distraction, the lightning guardian's weapon broke the blade of her katana off...but he was thrown back into a wall by a sudden burst of angry rain flames, not moving. Taking her broken katana in hand, Rika hurled herself at the mist guardian with an enraged battle cry, driving the broken katana blade through his stomach. She didn't have time to stop and mourn over Akira, so she hurled herself back into combat against the attackers. When she lost her broke katana, she picked up Akira's glaive and continued fighting, her rage getting the best of her and her rain flames attacking anybody who came near her or Akira's body. By the time allies arrived, the other family were in retreat from Rika, who had managed to fend them off and send them running once they realized their time was up. When allies arrived, including her own guardian family and Ryouichi, Rika finally went down from exhaustion and her own injuries, crashing into the ground next to Akira. Akira was the only recorded death on the Vongola's side while other injuries had been minimal.
Rika spent several days in a coma and had undergone surgery to save her life from her own injuries. Yamamoto had taken over her position again to help clean up the mess left behind. Together, Akira and Rika had taken out three guardians of an enemy family and word quickly spread from witnesses of the attack and gained Rika the name of "Wildcat," throughout the mafia. Families had been saved...but hers was gone. After she woke up, she learned even worse news...that she'd be pregnant and that the fight and her own injuries had caused her to miscarry the child. She didn't know what to say. She'd lost a child...and her husband. She wanted to break down and cry right there, but hadn't been given the time as Ryuu hurtled into the room to the knowledge his mother was /awake/ and going to be okay now. Rika still had Ryuu to look after at least...and there was Silvia, of course.
Four years later, the death of Ryouichi hit her hard...she should have known. She should have seen it...but she'd been too embroiled in taking care of Ryuu and Silvia as a single mother and trying to heal that she hadn't noticed. She felt indirectly responsible for Ryouichi's death. Tsunayoshi took over as boss again for a few years until another one was found...but there was a void left by Ryouichi's death and everybody else she had lost over the course of her life. Ryouichi's other child took over when he could after Tsunayoshi, but he hadn't filled the void left and six years later, had died after a lost fight. She hadn't been able to help him either...the death of Ryouichi's child and her own inability finally had Rika step down as Rain guardian, passing it on to Ryuu. She'd been training Ryuu for a long time now...and he was ready for it.
- While Ryuu is considered the heir to the Shigure Soen Ryu style and Yamamoto himself, Rika is more skilled and experienced than her son, but it is because she is a female that more people consider Ryuu the heir instead of her.
- Rika has several aliases in the mafia - including "Wildcat." "Heartbreaker." "Queen of Ghosts" as well as several not meant for the public to hear.
- Rika, despite her age, turns many heads and much to Ryuu's chagrin, is usually hit on by men and women alike. He's a huge mama's boy and doesn't like people hitting on his mom. His friends in high school have referred to his mom as a "milf" or sort of like "stacy's mom." She takes all this in stride, often flirting in jest just to annoy Ryuu.
