He was raised rather well, the family was not rich or poor. They were average middle class and they were raised by very strict parents so before ever having kids they were married and properly educated. He was the first born, followed by two little sisters. Of course he was raised to always do as his parents told him to do. The parents did not try to push the children too far but they were slightly strict sometimes. For the most part they'd rather give both girls and Makoto a normal life. It had been part of the reason as to why they moved back to Japan after a few years in Germany with his father's side of the family. For Makoto this was a lot better, he did like the fresh air and the Japanese culture a lot more than his his father's birth place. Back to his studies he went, being only in elementary school at the time the transition was a bit weirder than he thought it'd be.
His siblings were still in daycare when they came back. Sadly he would never actually get to see them attend school like normal children. It had all been an accident. None of them were supposed to be home he found out later. But school and work had ended because of a storm coming towards them. It was only a precaution and they could have done other things, but they all went home instead. Both girls upstairs playing with toys, Makoto in his room studying from his books again. And his parents downstairs talking about something. He'd thought his parents were just stressed out about work, and school for the kids. But no they weren't, loud noises were heard. Fighting and cursing then the sound of gun fire. Not exactly a good idea when the girls started screaming. He only remembers reaching to grab his gun and everything went black after that. His sisters were gone, his parents were gone and his house was falling down around him.
To this day the boy still doesn't know what happened. He woke up in the hospital strapped down as if he tried to escape. His parents were missing, his siblings deceased. The tiny bodies had been found in the basement after the fire was put out. It was not how he thought things would go. Everything had seemed fine but his parents were gone. They had not been found, no sign of bodies or anything to say they lived or died. And that was where he was shipped off to someone he barely knew in the next city. And there he stayed as his life progressed and he slowly recovered form his injuries. Physical therapy and treatments he went back to school again. Though he'd been doing a lot of his homework at home while he healed he was still slightly behind. It took him extra summer classes and time to pass and go into the next grade with his class.
He had an okay life after that, finishing up high school. Meeting a woman named Rika and her husband to be or whatever before he ended up finishing high school. He went straight into college after that and helped the family out when he wasn't busy. His own family and Rika's family. He didn't really mind them at all, they were good people. And he was usually busy with college so his mind was always kinda out of it. Though when her husband died and that whole situation happened, he did stick around a bit more before wandering off to do his own thing. Transferring to another department in another part of the world. He stayed there for quite awhile getting involved with a woman that he had met one night after solving a case. They had what one might call a fling, and nine months later after not seeing the woman again he had a child dropped off on his doorstep. He couldn't shove the child away so he had to keep her, if she was indeed his he wanted to be a good parent.
It's been almost six years since then, and he's back in Namimori with his cute little girl and checking on Rika, Ryuu and anyone else. He's after the mafia but he's left that part out of the memo.
